Lesson 5 - Hiragana: Character E

5.1 Character E in the Japanese Hiragana alphabet
This Japanese Hiragana symbol is represented by the
two English characters E and e. Its top line can be
drawn in different ways. More diagonal and like in
this case with a bit more horizontal leaning style.

5.2 In which order to draw the lines?
Follow these illustrations below to discover the
drawing order of this beautiful Hiragana symbol.

As I mentioned before - the most top line can be drawn
in different ways depending of your own personal style.

5.3 How about the direction of each line?
The line stroke direction does matter when writing Hiragana.
I have painted these small red arrows to indicate in which
direction to draw in - if you write by hand.

Step 1 is controversial. It can be drawn in different ways.
This way is a bit more horizontal than the most common
way of writing it. Draw from left to right and lean down
slightly. Note that the leaning of this most top line can differ
quite a lot depending of which street sign you see in Japan.

Step 2 consist of three line sections. It is one line, but the
way of drawing it involves changing directions several times.
First draw from left to right, then abruptly turn diagonally
down towards the left. When stopping at the lower left end,
then follow back up diagonally along the line for about half
distance and then bend the line towards right - and then
straight down. Finally flatten out the line towards the right.
